This session is solid, funky, sometimes a little out there (for the time), but always filled with that swingin' church thing. Blue Mitchell's trumpet playing, as many have noted, was a refreshing individual voice. Here he is with a great line-up of what were then some of the young lions in the biz. To borrow a phrase from a Horace Silver tune, this is finger-poppin' music. Recommended.
