 Notes & Reviews

Grammy nominated, San Francisco Bay Area artist Dave Scott is a professional trumpet performer, teacher, and composer. He has toured and recorded with jazz artists Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra, as well as Marcus Shelby, Adam Theis, the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and Brass Monkey Brass Band. He also leads his own jazz quartet. Since 2004, Dave has toured with rock musician Boz Scaggs. In 2006, Dave Scott founded TRUMPETSUPERGROUP, joining five trumpeters with piano, bass, and drums. Mixing jazz and classical music with a healthy dose of trumpet virtuosity and improvisation, TRUMPETSUPERGROUP celebrates the uplifting possiblities of trumpet performance. Joined by Mark Inouye, Principal Trumpeter of the San Francisco Symphony, Mario Guarneri, Professor of Trumpet of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Erik Jekabson, Mike Olmos, and Doug Morton, their 2008 recording 'Torsion' explores a wide range of expression, juxtaposing jazz with virtuosic trumpet sounds of renaissance music, Beethoven, and early 20th century American pop music. Recorded at the legendary Bay Records Studio in Berkeley, California, Dave Scott's TRUMPETSUPERGROUP CD 'Torsion' is recommended for music lovers interested in jazz, classical, improvisation, and the pure and noble sound of the trumpet as it has been expressed in contrasting ways throughout music history.
