Discovered by soul icon Leon Huff of Philadelphia International Records fame, The Ebonys originally formed in New Jersey in 1968 and featured the top notch vocalists Jenny Holmes, David Beasley, James Tuten and Clarence Vaughan. They released their debut single, "Can't Get Enough," on the tiny Soul Clock label in 1969. Realizing their potential, Leon Huff signed the group to Philadelphia International Records and released their first single for the label in 1971 and their debut album followed in 1973. Although The Ebonys received wide critical acclaim and their debut single, "You're the Reason Why," reached the top ten of the US R&B chart, other acts on the label such as The O'Jays and Billy Paul were ruling the roost and The Ebonys never realized their true commercial potential. Recently, founding member David Beasley decided to reform The Ebonys and recruited the best vocalists he could find for the project. The group convened at their old stomping grounds at the legendary Sigma Sounds studios in Philadelphia and commenced to make a new album that would revive some of The Ebonys classic tunes plus add some new material and choice covers to round out the project. The resulting album was produced by the legendary Philly soul icon Butch Ingram and features the Ingram Brothers band, The Society Hill Orchestra plus the Ingram Brothers horns to recreate the sound and feel of those early Philly International recordings. Now dubbed David Beasley's Fabulous Ebonys, the classic sound is back on their new debut album "Anything That You Want," and the group clearly delivers the goods.
