Four Tet : Everything Ecstatic Pt. 2

Take the mesmerizing aural experience of Four Tet's acclaimed Everything Ecstatic and couple it with ten new film shorts commissioned specifically for the ten musical pieces and you get this synapse-fusing new DVD release. The never-before-seen material (well, 9/10ths unseen) comes as a DVD/CD double-pack with Everything Ecstatic Part 2, 35 minutes of brand new music, some radical rethinks of material from Everything Ecstatic, which together represent a current snapshot of Kieran's ever-changing musical thinking. ''I don't want the CD of music to come across as just extras or remixes,'' says Kieran. ''I see it as more of a continuation of the album, as though it is a constantly changing and evolving thing. Specially commissioned for this purpose from underground artists and filmmakers from around the world, the ten short films comprising the DVD include contributions from previous Kieran collaborators such as Woof Wan Bau and Jason Evans, as well as new art world discoveries,and exclusive footage shot around the world by Kieran himself. Everything Ecstatic Part II is a five-track minor musical miracle featuring a 16-minute-plus much-evolved version of 'Turtle Turtle Up' as well as 'Sun Drums And Soil (Part 2)', and new material. As with previous major Kieran workouts, the 1/4 hour of 'Turtle...' is decidedly uneasy listening, pushing everything way beyond the boundaries. It is exhilarating in the extreme.
