Tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson recorded a dozen albums for Milestone, and it's that 1967-1976 material that gets the deluxe treatment on this massive 8-CD, 82-track set. Quintet and quartet sides with Herbie Hancock join previously-unreleased live material from a sextet featuring Woody Shaw on trumpet; a wonderful duet with altoist Lee Konitz; guest appearances with cornetist Nat Adderley and singer Flora Purim, plus contributions from trombonist Grachan Moncur III, keyboardist Joe Zawinul, Alice Coltrane, George Duke, and more amazing talent! And the music? It ranges from hard-bop to funk to fusion with tunes like The Kicker; But Not for Me; Black Narcissus; Canyon Lady; Black Is the Color (of My True Love's Mind); 'Round Midnight, and more.
