At first glance, a collection of Johnny Mathis' greatest hits, including the #1 hit 'Chances Are' should have been popular, but the runaway success of the album caught everyone by surprise, not least Johnny himself. A twelve track collection, including no fewer than eight Top 50 pop hits, Johnny's Greatest Hits took off almost immediately when released in April 1958 and went on to top the charts for a total of three weeks in June that year. Yet the album hadn't even began to register its popularity - it would remain on the album charts for an unprecedented total of 490 consecutive weeks - almost 10 years!
