'Powerful Stuff 41/2 stars' Downbeat 'A fat slick sound with horns slicing through guitar grunge' Jazziz 'Williams'comes up with a sound that is sheer energy and unpretentious' The Chicago Suntimes 'Williams' brilliant,razor-edged mosaics bristle with the audacious rawness of Zappa' Jazztimes Kimotion, formerly known as The Paumalu Symphony was formed in 1975 while Kimo was a student at Berklee. Kimo wrote music that was so unique he had to form his own ensemble to express his compositional concepts for large ensemble. These concepts involved his own unique harmonic technique called Diagonal Harmony. Over the years Kimotion has featured many of the country's leading instrumentalist includingVinnie Colaiuta (former drummer with Sting and Frank Zappa, currently working with Steely Dan and Elton John), Tim Landers (former bass player with Billy Cobham currently bassist and musical director with the John Tess Orchestra), Richard Gibbs (former musical director for Chaka Kahn and currently writing movie scores which includes Dr. DoLittle with Eddie Murphy), Mike Stern (former guitarist with Miles Davis and Blood Sweat and Tears), Victor Bailey, (former bassist for Weather Report and Madonna), Jamie Glaser (former guitarist for Jean Luc Ponty and many more who have gone on to great success. Current members of Kimotion include some the top musicians in Chicago. The Kimotion ensemble includes four trumpets, four trombones, five saxes, two guitars, keyboards, percussion, bass, drums, two violins viola and cello. The music is high energy combining rock with jazz and all places in-between. Kimotion will be touring Vietnam during the winter 2002.
