This is first-rate stuff: smart, jazzy compositions, great grooves (some in odd meters), tight ensemble, and Lurie just wails on the alto sax. Purists should note that they're not above some multi-tracking here (two or three saxes on occasion, doubled bass, etc.) According to their recent NPR profile, these folks have trouble making ends meet; I'll be picking up their other albums to help 'em out! - Brian A Skiff, 01/17/2001, USA
