This tribute from Universe to the late giant of R&B features the first recordings of Ray Charles' trio, made between 1949 and 1954, with his peculiar crooner style a la Charles Brown o Nat King Cole, laced with gospel notes. Ray matured in these years and went on to explore new directions in rhythm 'n' blues, jazz, gospel, soul and blues.
