 Notes & Reviews

Sam Blight has played guitar since the age of thirteen. His finger style playing has been influenced by the likes of Chet Atkins, Leo Kotke, John Renborne, Richard Thompson, Ralph Towner, Stephan Grossman and his friend Andrew White to name a few. His first album 'To the Island' produced by Gary Burke in 1989 and featuring Sam's original compositions, recorded with an ensemble of local Western Australian musicians, only ever received local release as a cassette, achieving a small but enthusiastic following. In late 1999 his album 'The Lost Chords' a was released to critical acclaim, winning best new artist of the year on the national radio program 'The Planet'. Sam currently owns and runs a small graphics firm in Fremantle. His other passions include digital art, aerodynamic modeling, radio controlled model aircraft, hang gliding and applied ontology.
