In 1977--at a time when most young jazz musicians were busy trying to emulate John Coltrane's'sheets of sound' or Miles Davis's fusion experiments--tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton emerged with his debut Concord Jazz release, launching the revival of swinging, mainstream jazz. While echoing the influences of swing-era masters such as Ben Webster, Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins, as a young man in his early twenties, Scott Hamilton had already distilled these appealing essences through his own original voice.
