Music has always played a big role in all of Ken Burns' documentaries, and with The War, he has certainly taken advantage of all the great material at his disposal. This deluxe, 4-CD set includes the actual soundtrack release from the series, 17 tracks ranging from Count Basie's How Long Blues to Bing Crosby's It's Been a Long Time to Aaron Copland's Concerto for Clarinet & String Orchestra to Norah Jones' brand-new recording of American Anthem. Then the other three CDs are devoted to each kind of music presented in the series, with one featuring classical music, one featuring hits from WWII and one featuring dance hits from the war. Includes Long Ago and Far Away Frank Sinatra; Sentimental Journey Les Brown with Doris Day; I'll Be Seeing You Tommy Dorsey; In the Mood Glenn Miller; Cherokee Charlie Barnet; Tuxedo Junction Erskine Hawkins; I'm Beginning to See the Light Harry James with Kitty Kallen; Frenesi Artie Shaw; Nuages gris, S199 Liszt; Pennies from Heaven Teddy Wilson with Billie Holiday, and more.
