Full title is: Uptown Soul & Funk from the Nashville Indies
2010 collection of rare Soul and Funk from Nashville Independent label Ref-O-Ree Records. Their first release was by The Avons, a local girl group that were featured regularly on the television show The Night Train. Their next release was by a young R&B singer named Freddie Waters, who had recorded as a member of The Hy-Tones. The Eddie & Freddie record was a late seventies reunion of the Hy-Tones and shows them moving with the times with a more than credible job of delivering The Funk. Larry Birdsong, Gene Allison and Roscoe Shelton were all well known recording artists. Wendell Watts recorded only a handful of 45s that now go for a lot of money to collectors of Northern Soul music and Rufus Hunter also only recorded two 45s, an alternate version of his first record is included on this CD. 20 tracks. |
