 Notes & Reviews

EU-only collection in a 4 plated Digipak with deluxe 72-page booklet. The first volume in Bear Family's THE HILLBILLIES: THEY TRIED TO ROCK 2014 series that brings together young and established Country artists of the '50's who were able to cross over to the Rock market with a new exciting sound now referred to as Rockabilly. On THEY TRIED TO ROCK, the label has collected a variety of examples of country musicians making the transition into Rock 'N' Roll. Some were very successful; others were less so. The results are all fascinating: The story of a genre struggling to hold it's own against enormous forces of change in the 1950's. Traditional American music battling against stylistic and economic pressures that threatened to engulf it. Country musicians wondered, 'Do we fight it or join it?' They did both as the new music began to spread. Here's some of what happened. 31 tracks.
