'Take Five' is the song everyone has heard, even if they don't know it by name. It's the first song on the album and the high point. Dave Brubeck seems to excel at writing catchy, lively jazz songs in unusual time signatures: 'Take Five' & 'Blue Rondo a la Turk' are in 5/4, 'Unsquare Dance' is in 7/4, 'It's Raggy Waltz' is 6/8, all on this album. Brubeck's combo has an appealing, lively, soft, cool, understated jazz sound with piano, drums, bass, and sax. I you like the sound of 'Take Five' you'll probably also like the sound of 'Them From 'Mr. Broadway',' which is quite similar. - Mark Atkins, 03/10/2001, USA
