Before Chris Hillman became a Byrd-and before Vern and Rex Gosdin recorded with Gene Clark-they were in a band called the Hillmen, a bluegrass outfit that brought nontraditional material into a Bluegrass setting. These live-to-3-track recordings were cut in L.A. in 1963 and 1964 intriguing stuff.
