Full title is: Coal

Grammy-award winning singer Kathy Mattea's 17th album, Coal, a collection of songs paying tribute to her West Virginian family heritage in the region's coal mining culture. Coal was produced by Country singer/songwriter/performer Marty Stuart. West Virginian Kathy Mattea is a Folk and Bluegrass influenced artist who fit most comfortably into the Country charts of the '80s, which at the time were welcoming artists with stripped-down sounds and progressive bents. Mattea's warm, rich alto voice, applied to some of the finest songs written in Nashville at that time, brought her great success from 1986 to the early '90s.
