This is the best CD in my collection. The interplay between Evans, LaFaro, and Motian is incomparable. It is almost unfathomable -- listen to the clinking of glasses and cutlery -- to realize that folks at the Vanguard could be doing anything other than listen with rapt attention to the artistry of this tragedy-stricken group. (LaFaro would be dead within a week of the recording; Evans' life would be tragically cut short.) I almost didn't write a review; words demean the caliber of the music presented here.
